CONSERVATION OF WATER TOWERS
Kenya has 5 main water towers mainly Mount Kenya Forest, The Aberdares Ranges touching Nyeri County, Nyandarua County, Muranga County and Kiambu County, Mau Summit in Narok, Mount Elgon, and Kakamega Forest. It’s fantastic that the Kenya Rafting Federation is taking on such an important role in the conservation of major rivers in Kenya! The country’s water towers are critical to both the environment and livelihoods, and their protection is essential for maintaining water sources, hydroelectric power generation, and biodiversity.
Rivers such as Tana River, Thiba River, Rupingas River, Nithi River, Maragua River, Ewaso Nyiro River, Mathioya River, Athi River, Yala River, Nzoia River and Nyando River among others, are key sources of water for millions of Kenyans, especially for agriculture and domestic use. Protecting these rivers through initiatives like tree planting and conservation events is vital to ensuring they remain sustainable.
Partnering with corporates for major events is an excellent approach, to raise awareness and help in mobilizing the resources needed for large-scale conservation efforts. Thus, we appeal corporates to partner with us on Major events of planting trees and general conservation.
