The Kenya Rafting Federation (KRF) is dedicated to promoting sustainable rafting and environmental conservation in Kenya. We focus on preserving the waters that supports the sport while empowering local communities and safeguarding the ecosystems that sustains them.
The waters from the Aberdare and Mt. Kenya catchments, like other critical water sources, are vital to millions of people. They support ecosystems, agriculture, eco-tourism, and industries across Kenya. These water fuels businesses, economies, and the communities that depends on them. Yet, climate change and unsustainable land-use practices are increasingly threatening these resources.
The KRF recognizes that the sustainability of rafting on our rivers like Sagana – and the lives and businesses they supports- depends directly on the health of these catchments. Protecting these waters is crucial for the environment, adventure sports, tourism, and the livelihoods they sustain.
To address this, we are launching The Rapid Quest, an annual event to be held on the scenic Sagana River. This event invites corporations, philanthropists, and enthusiasts to participate in an exhilarating rafting experience while championing the conservation of these critical water sources. Our tagline ‘Paddling for Change,’ reflects our shared commitments to safeguarding the future of these waters, which sustains the river and the people it serves.
Participants in The Rapid Quest will join teams that paddle uniquely numbered rafts, each representing a partner organisation or individual. These numbers will anchor fundraising efforts, allowing partners to rally support within their networks to further conservation and community development initiatives. Fund raised will go towards protecting the catchments of Aberdare and Mt. Kenya, restoration of farm landscapes, empowering local livelihoods, and ensuring the continued flow of life-giving waters that sustain both the Sagana River and the Kenya’s economy.
